As you step fully into spring and into summer you may be looking for a way to keep your wellness movement going forward. Gone are the days (hopefully) where energy is put toward fad, out of balance eating. I believe that one important piece to building sustainable positivity is to feed your head and not your emotions. Choose to add good carbohydrates to your plan for high level nourishment and you will enjoy greater well-being and a brighter outlook too. When we take the route of too little carbohydrates we may be setting ourselves up for a season of the blues.
A study in the Archives of Internal Medicine found that when people go too low with their daily carbohydrate intake (20 to 40 grams of carbs daily), approximately the amount found in ½ cup of rice and a piece of bread daily, they experience a greater incidence of depression, anxiety and anger. Individuals who nourished their mind and body with a variety of foods ranging from whole grains, low fat dairy, legumes, fruits and veggies experienced a lower incidence of depressive emotions. Good, clean carbs are powerful promoters of serotonin, a brain chemical that is all about you feeling good. Eat well, balanced and whole and enjoy the good vibrations!
Best and blessings, Dr. James
Letter from Dr. Debra Rouse
As we continue to hear or experience more doom and gloom over the economy and the state of health care in our nation, let us not forget all of the good that is readily available when we simply make ourselves available to it. As we head into summer it is time to shed layers, letting go of any negative beliefs that are holding us back. It’s time to celebrate Mom and Dad – or those individuals in our lives who have had a positive parental-like influence in our lives. If this time of year brings up all that your parents were not for you, look inside and find the space for healing. Do something for yourself to demonstrate how worthy you are of love and attention. Look up some local race events and challenge yourself to a new level of fitness. Experiment with new foods in the kitchen and invite a friend or loved one over for lunch or dinner. Plant your first garden (or your second or thirtieth!). Even though I am challenged with growing much living above 7200 ft, I try to grow something new every year!
Look no further than within to see your true beauty. When you focus there you are sure to radiate kindness, love, and warmth all around.
Wishing you a beautiful start to summer,
Debra Rouse, ND (Editor in Chief)

Hi… I have a friend who told me that you had an article titles “Fuled for Fittness”. It had suggestions of what to eat before and after a workout. I would be very much interested in receiving a copy of it, if it is available. Thank you… Jackie
How can I sign up for a subscription to your magazine? PS>… I live in Miami now. How often do they circulate.
Currently we are working on getting the full magazine up and available online. Unfortunately we are unable to offer subscriptions at this time. They circulate bi-monthly and we are diligently working on national distribution. Keep your fingers crossed!
