Helen Keller shared that “character is not built when you are comfortable.” I know that creating a life of balance and optimum wellness is all about stretching outside of our self-limiting comfort zones. The fall season presents an inspiring opportunity to embrace the change of the season going on around us on the outside and open ourselves to transformation on the inside.
Look inside and see how you can openly love yourself greater thru empowering practices of self-care. Become a morning person and invite balance into each cool autumn day with vigorous morning exercise balanced with a soothing and centering yoga session. Commit to nourishing your body-mind with the harvest offering of fresh, local fruits and vegetables. Set an intention with yourself and your family to eat a new or different color every day. Be grateful each moment and know that the energy of gratitude is both contagious and healing — spread it liberally.
Thank you for the joy and privilege of allowing Debra and I to share our passion for well-being and service via Optimum Wellness with you. May your life be blessed.
Peace and positivity, James
As much as I love the idea of slowing down in the summer, it rarely happens at our house. We are always on the go and that is just one of the reasons that I look forward to the return of autumn. Things start to get quiet again. The days are a little cooler, the kids are back in school, and although once the afternoon bell rings we’re rushing around to soccer, tennis, volleyball, piano lessons or the library, the days feel quieter and I settle back into the familiar rhythm of my weekday routine. I also love this time of year because it is harvest time. Apples, pumpkins, squash, beets, carrots, onions, potatoes, pears, grapes, are all at their peak flavors. It is a fabulous time for festivals and a fun time to experiment in the kitchen with all of the wonderful produce that is available. You’ll find delicious apple recipes in this issue and other inspired dishes to get you in the mood for the harvest bounty! Enjoy and remember, we love hearing from you, so don’t hesitate to send me a note to debra@optimumwellness.com.
Best and blessings,
Debra
