Wine May Decrease Risk Of Esophageal Cancer

Researchers from Kaiser Permanente research group conducted a large population based study that found that men and women who consumed one or more glasses of red or white wine daily decreased their risk for developing Barrett’s Esophagus by over 50%. Barrett’s Esophagus is a precursor to esophageal (throat) cancer. Barrett’s Esophagus affects approximately 5 percent of the general United States population and happens when heartburn or acid reflux permanently injures the esophageal lining. There was no reduction in risk in the population that consumed beer or liquor.

Could a man’s diet actually affect how virile he is? Yes, according to new research coming from the University of California at Berkeley. The dietary support came from kiwis, broccoli, strawberries and oranges – all rich in Vitamin C; almonds, sunflower seeds, soy yogurt and pecans – rich in Vitamin E; sweet potatoes, mangos, spinach and kale – rich in beta carotene. All these foods are rich in antioxidants and the study found that men who consumed a diet rich in these key antioxidants had the best sperm and semen quality-in terms of number and motility.

Experts believe that cigarette smoke damages the skin as much as exposure to the ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. In a study performed at the University of Missouri, running had a greater beneficial effect on bone mineral density than resistance exercise.
