Living Light
Obesity and Liver Disease
Dr. James Rouse says obesity increases the risk of developing one or more chronic and possibly life-threatening diseases, like liver disease.
Obesity and overweight are major health problems all over the world; especially in the United States, where approximately 300,000 people lose their lives as a consequence of [...]
More Reasons to Eat Slowly
A recent study from Osaka University in Japan determined that people who eat fast are three times more likely to be overweight as slow eaters. Those people in the study who ate quickly until they were full were more likely to be fat than those who ate slowly and stopped before they felt really full.
More Portion Distortion
The bigger the container, the more we eat. The larger the plate the more we eat. The larger the slice of bread, the bigger sandwich we eat. It shouldn’t surprise us that recent findings from Pennsylvania State University found that women consume more calories when they are served large portions of high calorie foods.
Making Sense of the Sweeteners
The temptation of sweets and goodies, cakes and candies surround us all the time. It’s like a constant seduction. Keeping The Weight Off
Some of us have gone to great lengths to lose 10, 20, maybe even 50 or more pounds. Perhaps taking off the weight wasn’t so hard after all; but keeping it off can be the real challenge. Hungry For Hoodia?
There is an herbal medicine creating quite a stir in the natural products marketplace. Hoodia gordonii is a cactus-like plant that grows in the Kalahari desert of Africa. The Hoodia genus has been eaten by the San Bushman for centuries but the Hoodia gordonii species has been specifically used during times of hardship when other was in short supply. In initial studies, researchers confirm that people who have taken an extract of Hoodia report a decrease in appetite and average a decrease in food intake by 40 to 60 percent.
Fast Food And Getting Fatter Faster
We all know that eating fast food is most likely not the healthiest way to go. Now according to new research, it was determined that body/mass index (a ratio of weight to height commonly used to determine if a person is over or under weight) increased in direct proportion to the number of fast food meals they consumed each week. On occasion, fast food can be a necessary convenience for some of us…but, let’s do our best to be mindful and proactive to make the best and healthiest choices we can!
